Researching Sound Mixes

Summary Of Sound
There are 4 different types of sound: Music, Dialogue, Sound effects and Voice-overs. They can have an emotional impact on the viewer as different types of sound can invoke many different emotions into someone such as: apprehension, tension, happiness, excitement etc. Sound can be resemble genre by different types of sound and how audiences take them in, for example a sound you would hear in a thriller movie would be gripping, invoke tension, worry as thriller trailers are made to create tension and create an enigma.

In the "Man of Steel" trailer, there is music being played that sound operatic and angelic. There is a voice over occurring in the background that gives advice to a person and acts as narrative information. There is no dialogue in this trailer, it is just mostly voice-over. There is sound effects of a person flying in to the clouds, it also acts as a plot signifier and gives character details as well.

in "The Woman In Black", there is music being played at the start which is very haunting piano keys. there is two separate voice-overs occurring, the first is of a creepy girls voice explaining some of the narrative and the second one tell us actor credits and the name of the movie. There is no dialogue in this trailer. There are some sound effects in this trailer including loud bangs coming with the inter titles. there also some diegetic effects that add to the horror narrative which are: doors opening, thunder/lightning, ripping wallpaper, toy moving, doors slamming and chair moving.

I have learnt a lot from analysing the sound of these trailers such as how many different types of sound there are: music, voice-overs, dialogue and effects. There are many layers that overlap each other when putting in sound such as the music beginning first then a voice-over will start talking while the music is playing in the background. it can all have an emotional impact on the viewer and decide their feeling of the movie and generate buzz surrounding the movie. There are loads of different sounds in trailers that I can use for my own trailer: voice-overs, music, sound effects, dialogue. music and sound effects can be found/made in Garage Band or Audacity software programs. Voice-overs can be created by recording on to the computer and dialogue can be recorded while filming the actual scene or added later by recording the voice on to the computer.
